The Innovex V-Motion and E-Motion golf balls are part of the Innovex Golf’s 2012 lineup.  Innovex Golf, founded in 2004, made industry news in the fall of 2011 with the acquisition of Rife Putters.

Both golf balls feature a 3-piece construction.  The V-Motion has a 318 dimple design with urethane cover while the E-Motion rolls out a 392 dimple design with suryln cover.

Here is a breakdown of the manufacturer’s stated player benefits according to Innovex*,:

Testing Approach

In testing and evaluation conducted by GolfBallTest.org, the Innovex V-Motion and E-Motion were subjected to bench testing for compression, cover hardness, weight and to player and robot testing using the driver, 6-iron and sand wedge.

Notable Observations

Player testing was conducted across a range of ball speeds on the V-Motion and E-Motion golf balls.  Overall, the V-Motion exhibits spin and launch angle characteristics similar to the 2011 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x, TaylorMade Penta TP5, Callaway HEX Black Tour, Bridgestone Tour B330-S and Srixon Z-STAR off all clubs (driver, 6-iron, and 56 degree wedge) from High and Mid ball speed levels. The E-Motion had substantially lower spin across all ball speeds off the 56 degree wedge, similar to the Top-Flite Gamer V2, Noodle Long and Soft, and Titliest Velocity golf balls.

Driver Testing:

The spin rate of the V-Motion was approximately 250-350 RPM’s lower than the Titleist Pro V1 and Nike 20XI-S across low, mid and higher ball speeds. The V-Motion’s overall distances were 2-3% higher when compared to the Titleist Pro V1 and Bridgestone Tour B330-S primarily due to a higher launch angle and the lower spin for all ball speeds tested.  By comparison, the E-Motion showed very low spin numbers off the driver for our low ball speed test but good overall distance results due to a higher launch angle. Mid to High speed results were more middle of the range for both spin and launch angle.

6-Iron Testing:

6-iron testing across all ball speeds for both the V-Motion and E-Motion exhibited less spin and slightly longer carry distance when compared with the Pro V1, Pro V1x, and Gamer V2.

Sand Wedge Testing:

The V-Motion had notably more spin and launch angle (3-5%) for the sand wedge than the Pro V1 and Pro V1x at all ball speeds tested and slightly more spin when compared to the Nike 20XI-Sand 20XI-X. Launch angles were slightly lower across all ball speeds when compared to the Bridgestone Tour B330 and Tour B330-S as well as the Callaway HEX Black Tour. The E-Motion ball showed its major differential in the sand wedge area of testing. Very low spins and very high launch angles were observed across all ball speeds. This characteristic is found in the Top-Flite Gamer V2, Noodle Long and Soft, Titleist Velocity, and the Wilson Staff DUO.

Bench Testing:

Our bench testing indicates that the V-Motion has an overall compression reading of 109 points, which is comparable to the 2011 Titleist Pro V1x and about 10% higher than the overall compression reading of the 2011 Titleist Pro V1.  The E-Motion has an overall compression reading of 99 points, which is comparable to the 2011 Titleist Pro V1.  Additional bench testing measuring cover hardness revealed that the V-Motion with its urethane cover exhibited similar cover hardness to the 2011 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x. The E-Motion exhibited a much firmer cover hardness that was among the firmest covers we have tested.  The E-Motion is similar in cover hardness to the 2012 Titleist Velocity and 2010 TaylorMade Burner. We weighed both balls on the Ohaus SP402 Scout scale. The V-Motion weighed 1.6140 ounces and the E-Motion 1.6040. By comparison the Titleist Pro V1 weighs 1.6140, the Bridgestone Tour B330-S 1.611, the Callaway HEX Black Tour comes in at 1.610 and the TaylorMade Penta TP5 1.6175 and Nike 20XI-S and 20XI-X at 1.6140 as well. Note: USGA maximum weight allowance is 1.62 ounces.

On-Course Player Comments:

“The V-Motion feels softer than the new Callaway HEX Black Tour and TaylorMade Penta TP5 balls and comparable to the Titlest Pro V1 and Bridgestone Tour B330-S especially off the putter and sand wedge”.  “When comparing the V-Motion to the E-Motion, I seem to get more spin and feel around the greens with the V-Motion although the E-Motion especially with the wedge seems to carry further on full wedge shots.”

“The V-Motion spins every bit as much as the Titleist Pro V1.  On approach shots, the V-Motion felt like the ball was completely controllable and acted as expected upon green impact. Off my stainless steel faced putter it felt very much like a Titleist Pro V1 – it putted extremely well with a tight end over end roll”.

Summary:

Mid to High ball speed players looking for a 3 piece “tour ball” should consider the Innovex V-Motion ball.  Golfers looking for distance without spin in their shorter irons might consider the E-Motion. Golfers of any ball speed should benefit from the slightly higher launch characteristics of both of these balls.   Additionally both exhibited slightly more distance on all clubs on a comparative basis for the driver and 6 iron.  The Innovex V-Motion should appeal to golfers of all abilities but particularly to mid to high ball speed players looking for a comprehensive ball with its softer cover hardness and consistent spin at an attractive retail price.  The E-Motion golf ball should appeal to golfers looking for a slightly firmer golf ball on and around the green, with particular lower spin off the sand wedge at any ball speed.
